Bio
Embracing a diverse and open attitude towards music, Dain Herndon has been a musician for over 15 years, and has taught consistently over the last 5 years. His teaching style emphases the use of holistic and sequenced lessons, with the goal of implementing far reaching skills intended for the student.
Born and raised in Everett, WA, Dain picked up guitar at the age of 12 and started by learning alternative rock songs by ear. Since then, he has gone on to perform in Seattle venues such as The Showbox Market and El Corazon Funhouse.
Dain has written music since high school, and in 2015 he self-released an EP with progressive rock trio Colour the Sound, in which he wrote guitar, vocals, and bass for. Dain is frequently attending song writing and composition workshops, and is currently working on an album of folk songs to be released next year.
In 2017, Dain attended Edmonds College where he studied jazz guitar with Milo Peterson. He also began to work with the voice extensively through lessons with his teacher Jacob Herbert, and through performances with the Symphonic Choir and Soundsation vocal jazz group. Around this time, Dain also began teaching guitar privately, as well as tutoring students in music theory, piano, algebra, and English.
Later in 2021, Dain moved up to Bellingham to attend Western, and is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Music Education program with an emphasis in choral music. He also currently studies classical guitar under professor Eli Schille-Hudson, and pedagogy courses with Dr. Patricia Bourne.
Dain is also currently enrolled in a 200-hour yoga teacher training, with additional emphasis on mindfulness practices and social-emotional learning for the K-12 classroom. During the school year, Dain works as a music library assistant at Western Washington University.
